“All the ways of a man are pure in his eyes, but the Lord weighs the thoughts of the heart”-

We are reminded throughout scripture that we as Christians need to ‘do good’. As Salvationists, this phrase ‘ Doing the most good’ has become quite ingrained in our identity.

But action is only a part of this command.

Our ‘heart attitude’ and our motivation is how God fully measures if our actions are truly good by His standard.

It is so easy and fulfilling to get into the routine of helping others in our corps, our jobs, schools, community- but the temptation of receiving acknowledgment, compensation, future returned favor can easily creep into our mind and heart in the process. This affects those who give as well as those who are receiving.

God already knows this, so He equips us for the challenge of denying these temptations:

Be on guard (Proverbs 4:23)
Be sincere and joyful ( 2 Corinthians 9:7)
Be humble (Matthew 6:1-4)
Be generous ( Deuteronomy 15:10)
Be the light ( Colossians 3:17)
